The Mercury Archetype: Don’t Shoot The Messenger!

The Mercury Archetype: Don’t Shoot The Messenger!

Today I will teach you who mercury is.´
Yes, the planet.
Yes, I speak like he is a human.

Relax… drop your shoulders, shake them.
Release the tension.
Let’s paddle back for a bit.

The Glue Of Existence

Have you ever wondered what on earth makes you functioning as one unit?

What force is this, that makes our organs work together as one organism?
Why work together with others (to be more effective)?
Who thought of diverse parts of one engine?
Where did the intelligence to even organize parts of the sum arose from?

You know, organize, as in, organism.
Different organs forming one thing.

What purpose does this “uniting” awareness have here on earth?

Because this planet mercury is up there, we have many expressions of this archetype present here on earth.

We are a mere reflection of what’s happening above.
As in the the principle of correspondence:

"As above, so below; as within, so without."

— Hermes Trismegistus in the Kybalion

Mercury is reflected in us.

He is the witty, Joker, funny and intelligent type of guy/gyal. You probably have one or two of those friends.

But it’s not about someone representing them. You see, when someone has dominant mercury traits, it does not negate you having those traits too. Everyone, has every archetype in the wheel of life in them.

The difference lies in the intensity of archetypal expression.

Who Or What Is Mercury?

Mercury has different names.

Thoth from Egypt and Hermes from Greece.

Well, he is also known as Hermes Trismegistus — He’s a blend of different gods.

Just like every other ancient god, he is derived from an celestial body.

Thats why throughout time, you see the same archetypes being displayed by different names. Their characters and powers still remain the same, because they represent a frequency bandwith of reality that is present within our solar system.

Thoth was the Egyptian god of wisdom, writing, and magic.

Hermes was the Greek god of communication and travel.

— they’re both gods associated with language and the written word, and both have a deep association with magic.

It doesn’t make sense to even debate whether or not these people existed.

They represent a force of this solar system.

A sublayer of reality.

Together, they form Hermes Trismegistus, a legendary figure who wrote about the mysteries of the universe.

Think of him as an ancient bridge between worlds.

Hermes Trismegistus left us key texts, including the Kybalion. His work influenced philosophy, alchemy, and mysticism.

The force that binds opposites.

He’s the messenger of the gods, guiding us to understand and connect seemingly opposing forces in our lives.

Have you ever asked yourself how you are a mix of water, fat, salt and other seemingly unblendable things?

If you would be looking at it from an objective perspective,

we are truly made out of magic.
maybe?

But still, you live here, and function as one.
(most of the time i hope)

Your awareness holds your sack of flesh together.

Many different powers within you, uniting.

Because you are organic intelligence with millions of years of experience.

Mercury, as the messenger between both worlds, the underworld and the light, can make seemingly opposite things work together.

He makes things work together, intelligently.

Mercury can go into the underworld without getting in trouble. As the messenger it is of utmost importance to be completely neutral.

Because he maintains neutrality, he is able to go into the underworld.

This is pretty powerful to keep in mind.

Mercury in Astrology

Mercury is quick, versatile, and always moving.

As some other planets, mercury is neither male or female, but has both qualities within it.

In astrology, Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo, influencing our mental processes and everyday routines.

Don’t get confused, let’s zoom back.

Mercury is intelligence, right?

How does intelligence work?

Well, we talked about this, with pattern recognition.

But also through thinking, insight, and practical application

The Masculine Pole Of Mercury: Gemini

The air that is flowing through our heads on a daily basis.

The thoughts that arise, you enjoy more or less.

This is the quick witty nature of mercury,

  • That is the masculine pole.
  • The element of air.
  • Ruled by the sign gemini.
  • Rules your arms and shoulders.

We talked about it. Mercury rules communication

Gemini rules the arms.

The voice is how you communicate.

Your vocal cords are connected to the C3-C7 Vertrebraes

“What level of the vertebrae is the vocal cord at? The location of the larynx is at the level of the C3 to C7 vertebrae and is held into position by muscles and ligaments. The superior-most region of the larynx is the epiglottis, which is attached to the hyoid bone connected to the inferior part of the pharynx.”

Anatomy, Head and Neck: Larynx (National Library of Medicine)

And Your arms share the same location.

C4 provides sensation for parts of your neck, shoulders and upper arms. Cervical nerve 5 controls the deltoid muscles of your shoulders and your biceps. C5 provides sensation to the upper part of your upper arm down to your elbow.

— my.clevelandclinic.org

You communicate and express with your arms & vocal cords.

Spoken word and linear thinking are expressed within the gemini archetype of mercury.

The Feminine Pole Of Mercury: Virgo

The earth that grounds us in our daily routines.

Virgo rules the actions you take, after having discerned which thoughts are applicable.

This is the methodical, analytical nature of Mercury.

  • This is the feminine pole.
  • The element of earth.
  • Ruled by the sign Virgo.
  • Rules your digestive system and nervous system.

Think about it. Gemini rules communication, and Virgo rules organization.

Communication is a prerequisite for organization.

Before you take action, you better thought about it before.

Virgo governs the digestive tract.

The nervous system is how you process information.

Your gut and brain are linked through the enteric nervous system, often called the "second brain."

“The gut-brain axis (GBA) consists of bidirectional communication between the central and the enteric nervous system, linking emotional and cognitive centers of the brain with peripheral intestinal functions. ”

The gut-brain axis: interactions between enteric microbiota, central and enteric nervous systems

And your nerves share this connection.

“The vagus nerve represents the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system, which oversees a vast array of crucial bodily functions, including control of mood, immune response, digestion, and heart rate. It establishes one of the connections between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract and sends information about the state of the inner organs to the brain via afferent fibers.”

Vagus Nerve as Modulator of the Brain-Gut Axis in Psychiatric and Inflammatory Disorders

You analyze and organize with your mind and your gut.

Practical skills and detailed thinking are expressed within the Virgo archetype of Mercury.

And if you have a strong virgo archetype present within you, there is a great possibility of high neuroticism.

I happen to be pretty sensitive within my gut area, and certainly see how much my daily management is connected to it’s wellbeing.

The Kybalion: What Mercury Has Left Us

I will just dump these laws right into your lap.

Thank you mercury, for the articulation of these universal laws.

They all, by themselves, deserve a whole newsletter by themselfes.

But I have a lot to talk about, so maybe it won’t happen. If you want me to go deep into these topics, answer to this e-mail with “Kybalion”, then I’ll do it.

1. The Principle of Mentalism

"The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental."

Everything begins with a thought. The universe itself is a manifestation of the universal mind. Our thoughts shape our reality, influencing the world around us.

Everything that you see in this world, was a thought before it got manifested.

This principle teaches us the power of our mind.

2. The Principle of Correspondence

"As above, so below; as below, so above."

We talked about this in the beginning.

There is a harmony, agreement, and correspondence between different planes of existence – the physical, mental, and spiritual.

What happens on one level affects the others.

By understanding the microcosm (ourselves), we can understand the macrocosm (the universe), and vice versa.

3. The Principle of Vibration

"Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates."

Everything in the universe is in constant motion, vibrating at its own frequency.

This includes matter, energy, and even thoughts. \Higher vibrations are associated with higher states of being and consciousness.

By raising our vibration, we can improve our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Your subjective experience governs the physics of quality.

4. The Principle of Polarity

"Everything is dual; everything has poles."

Everything has its pair of opposites, and these opposites are identical in nature but different in degree.

Hot and cold, light and dark, good and evil – all are polarities of the same essence.

This principle helps us understand and reconcile opposites.

Truth is found in paradoxes.

5. The Principle of Rhythm

"Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides."

Life is a series of cycles and patterns.

Everything rises and falls, advances and retreats.

This principle of rhythm governs the movements of the planets, the cycles of nature, and the patterns of human life.

Moving through the ups and downs, riding the waves rather than being overwhelmed by them.

6. The Principle of Cause and Effect

"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause."

Nothing happens by chance.

Every action has a reaction, and every effect has a cause.

This principle emphasizes the importance of taking responsibility for our actions, understanding that our thoughts and behaviors set off chains of events that shape our reality.

7. The Principle of Gender

"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles."

This principle is not just about physical gender but about the masculine and feminine energies that exist in all things.

You, as a man, have a female inside of you. The other way around, too. Scary thought?

Welcome to the Mystics world. We are barely scratching the surface.

Balancing these poles brings balance, obviously.

That’s it for now!
I don’t want to overwhelm here.

But I Have A Last Question For You…

This Saturday we explored who Mercury is, the planet and the force behind communication and intelligence. Mercury is not just a celestial body but an archetype that influences our thoughts, speech, and ability to connect different aspects of life.

If you’re especially intrigued by the Kybalion and want more in-depth exploration of these laws, let me know by replying to this email with "Kybalion." If not, I will just keep on going with my planned schedule.

Have a great Weekend!

Kiss Kiss,

Tarkan
